Tim Schumm

As a Canadian painter, Tim Schumm is constantly inspired by the power and diversity of our landscape.  He is exploratory by nature and has experienced a wide cross section of Canada.  A large portion of his work has been created "en plein air".  When that is not possible, due to the weather of the size of the canvasses, he paints in his in-home studio.  Schumm's objective as a painter, is to render a pictorial image and convey as emotional context that is accessible to the view.  This is achieved by several methods.  Firstly, by using expressive and impastoed brush strokes, rendering a sense of movement and texture, giving the painting a life of its own.  Schumm's interpretation of color also sets the dynamic mood and feeling in his paintings.  And finally, the tone of his paintings are often ranging from the darkest to the lightest, in an effort to achieve maximum drama.  This combination of information is created in a spontaneous and intuitive fashion, by which he is often surprised and excited by the end result.

The works of Tim Schumm are held in private and corporate collections and his works can be viewed at the Harrison Gallery in Vancouver and the Whistler Village Art Gallery in Whistler, B.C.
