Dave Petko's Love for vivid colour, and graceful, straight forward representation began in childhood. He was drawn to Saturday morning cartoons - the style, the backgrounds, the characters. Add to this some old school black and white horror movies, and you have some of Dave's influences. He uses vibrant colour in his art to develop a flow that takes the eye on a visual journey. Dave spent most of his childhood in Sarnia, Ontario. He started his art education by taking some high school art classes and attending several Ontario colleges to major in Graphic Design, Commercial Design and Screen Printing. In 1994, Dave moved to Vancouver B.C., working at New Age Graphics as a screen printer for a little under a year, then moved on to Toad Hall Studios, in Whistler B.C., where was Master Screen printer until 2004. He has also been tattooing at Black Ohm Tattoos in Whistler for six years. Painting professionally for ten years now, Dave is primarily a self taught artist. He started his own company Liquid Sunshine Designs in 2003 to promote and produce his own unique style of colourful acrylic paintings and limited edition prints. He has sold paintings to collectors in Canada and the U.S.A., the U.K., and Germany. He has had his art displayed in many exhibits in both Canada and the U.S.A., both solo and group exhibits. Dave belives that the best things in life won't come knocking on your door, or appear on your television set. To find them, they must be sought after. You must discover new worlds, and Dave invites you to explore his paintings to see what you can find. |
